The Heart of Feed My Paws: A Letter About Hoovy (on his road to recovery)
Share
If you've followed Feed My Paws for a while, you've probably seen glimpses of a little dark brown fluffball — my dog, Hoovy.
Hoovy isn’t "just a dog". He’s my best friend, my constant, and the very reason Feed My Paws still exists today. Every treat, every cake, every decision made with love — started because of him. He’s been here from day one, through quiet home baking days to where we are now.
Hoovy is now (almost) 17. And while he's still my brave little boy, these past weeks have been incredibly tough. He was recently hospitalised due to pancreatitis, kidney concerns, a heart murmur, and poor gut mobility. After going through many tests, we discovered it started with his kidneys, which unfortunately was a genetic condition that "eventually would have happened" with age. With his kidneys not doing well, his pancreas got inflamed, and his gut eventually shut down. Thankfully, his condition stabilised enough for a home trial, and he’s back with me now — resting, sleeping lots, and slowly finding his footing again.
It’s hard to describe how it feels to see someone you love so much go through something like this. The fear, the uncertainty, the exhaustion — they hit differently when your whole world is wrapped up in one tiny heartbeat. At one point, I really thought I would lose him because with each hospital visit, he seemed to be doing worse. Eventually, the best decision was to get him discharged and allow him to recuperate from home- and thankfully, that has worked wonders for him.
We’re taking things one step at a time, and I’m doing everything I can to support his recovery — with gentle foods, quiet comfort, and so much love. I believe, with all my heart, that being home will help him more than anything else.
Why am I sharing this? Because I'm hoping our journey will be able to help other pet pawrents who may face a similar issue. I have been so lucky to receive so much advice from many, especially my friend, S, who shared curated recipes, supplements, and knowledge extensively.
If you're reading this, thank you. For supporting this little business built out of a big love. For being a part of our journey. And if you’ve ever loved a furkid, you’ll understand just how deep that bond goes.
Please keep Hoovy in your thoughts as he heals. We’ll be sharing little updates as we go — and no matter what lies ahead, I’m grateful every day for the love we’ve been given.
With love,
Crystle & Hoovy 🧡
