Can rabbits eat grapes?

You may be wondering, can my rabbit eat grapes?

The short answer is, YES! But, read on to find out how you can safely feed your rabbit grapes before you begin :)

The nutritional content of grapes (per 100g serving):

  • Sodium 2mg
  • Potassium 191mg
  • Carbohydrate 17g
  • Fibre 0.9g
  • Sugar 16g
  • Protein 0.6g
  • Vitamins: C, Iron, B6, Magnesium, Calcium

While grapes has its benefits in terms of vitamins and fibre, the amount of carbohydrates and sugar far outweighs them.

Of course, almost all rabbits love grapes because of how sweet and juicy they are, and while you can feed your rabbits grapes, do so sparingly.

Our recommendation: "How many grapes can I feed my rabbit?"

Baby rabbits (0-6 months): Baby rabbits should not consume grapes

Young rabbits (6-12 months): Young rabbits can consume a maximum of 1-2 grapes per week

Adult rabbits (12 months and older): Adult rabbits can consume a maximum of 2-3 grapes, ~2 times a week

My rabbit has never had grapes before, how do I introduce grapes?

Rabbits have a very sensitive digestive system, and all new foods should be introduced sparingly to avoid painful gas and diarrhoea. If your rabbit has never had grapes before, we recommend trying out just a quarter of a grape. You can increase this portion gradually over a few weeks.

How to prepare grapes to feed your rabbits:

Soak grapes in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes to remove any dirt, wax, or impurities. Cut into halves or quarters and serve :)
